Help remembering a quest type game

Perhaps in the early 80s I visited a university campus
computer center. They had what I believe was an Apple II or
II+ with a disk drive. On the computer they had this game. I
need help remembering what it might have been so that I can
search for ways to play it again.

Anyway here's a description:

On the screen there were various areas, such as a swamp &
forest & towns. It was the job of the character you
controlled to go from place to place & try to buy things &
people to help you on your quest.

The display was not advanced - perhaps some form of
alphanumeric character manipulation. I've looked at some of
the screen shots for various Apple II type games, but I've
not seen one that matches up with what I remember.

There may have been some rudimentary sound with the game.

Anyway if you happen to have some ideas as to possibilities
as to what the game might have been please post your reply.
