I have actually tried several times to plug it on that way, one pin left or right, and it is very difficult. The pins with no holes over them have solid material over them. That actually bend the pins outward. I believe the most common error is as I described with a whole row off. Very easy to do and it really looks like it on correctly, unless you are looking closely. Has anyone ever tried to connect it with the cable on the card side? Not an easy task either. :o)
On quite a few cards I have, a previous owner had pulled the cable off in such a way as to bend the pins at one end outward a fair bit. On those cards there wouldn't be any problem connecting the cable one pin over. I tried that too and I found that I had no difficulty hooking up the Drive one cable backwards. Drive two would have been harder. If Apple had used a keyed connector on their cable it would have made that impossible. If they'd done it on the card as well it would have saved a lot of drive repairs. Wayne
