Devices like the VGA-box take a composite vido sigmal  input and show on a VGA
monitor. This means the quality will never be better than the quality of a
composite video signal. 80 column video and such type of higher resolution
graphics shown this way will therefore  be mediocre. 
Get a RGB monitor! Not difficult to find in Europe as remains of the hobby
computer era in the eighties. Even most television sets in Europe have RGB input
on the SCART connector.
