The RAM on a //c IS soldered.  I had a bad RAM chip, so I just replaced
all of it, and when I did so, I socketed the chips.  The mistake was that
the added height of the socket allowed the pins on one of the chips to
short out on the bottom of the disk drive.  A small piece of electrical
tape fixed that problem.  8-)

I have that machine, but I haven't done much with it...
