Re: Tell me about the Apple II Desktop!

The final version of DeskTop v. 1.1 has five DAs, but room for 8. Text Reader
and Sort Directory are the most useful. Also, there is the puzzle, a date
clock, and calculator. I emailed the project head for MouseDesk and DeskTop
years ago and I believe that he said that there were other DAs that weren't
released.

No, TImeOuts and Pinpoints won't function from within DeskTop, either as DAs or
launched without AppleWorks. You can launch separate programs from the 24
program launcher, however.

SNEEZE works well as a HR and DHR viewer--almost as good as clicking on the
icons to see them.

QUICKVIEW lets any AW word processor file be read quickly and easily.

DB.VIEWER allows AW databases to be read, searched, and printed.

HOOK allows drives to be made invisible to the computer, including DESKTOP, so
Desktop loads faster, say without having to run the floppy drives.

SAY!!!! --HAS ANYONE EVER TRIED RUNNING HOOK AFTER LOADING DESKTOP ON A
//C?????????? IT JUST MIGHT STOP THE INTERNAL DRIVE FROM RUNNING ON AND
ON!!!!!!!

SUPER SELECTOR give you another program launcher with 26 quick launching hot
keys. It's such a tiny program, I like to have a copy of it on all my
partitions.

Since DESKTOP does not have post-its or a memo pad, I like use a small word
processor program for quick notes (such as where that important, but rarely
referenced file is on the quarter-gig HD). It's faster and easier than
launching AW each time. Then quit, and it's back to DeskTop.

It does have a quick launching file launching screen that preceedes the
desktop. When a tech group was inventoring our school's computers, that screen
almost gave the guy a whiplash. I really wanted to see what the desktop, with
folders open and the calculator up would have done!

That's it? Are Appleworks add-in packages like Pinpoint, etc.,
compatible with the mouse version? >>
