Back in February I decided to try to get my first computer working
again - a revision zero Apple II (serial # 4704) that I bought NEW in
1978 for $1200.00. I've always held onto it for sentimental reasons,
even though it has been totally broken for at least 18 years.
This is the computer I learned 6502 assembly on, and that prepped me
for a long and happy career in software development - a career I'm
still enjoying today.
After weeks of trolling the net for info, trouble-shooting, buying
spare parts on eBay, and even getting a bunch of new TTL chips to
replace several that were bad, I finally got everything fixed up and
got it all back together this evening. What a great moment it was
just to see a simple "Hello World" program running on it again after
all these years!
I was able to get a lot of information that helped me out by searching
the postings on this NG and by downloading stuff from Asimov. So I
just wanted to share the good news that another vintage Apple is back
up, and say THANKS to all of you in the A2 online community who have
put so many great resources out on the net!!! There's no way I could
have done it without you.
