digispeech

I stumbled upon a large box containing several Digispeech speakers. I think
they went with some Apple II stuff, but I'm not sure. What exactly are these
things? They have a built in speaker, a volume knob, what looks like a
parallel plug (female 25 pin), 2 large headphone connectors and one smaller
remote jack. I opened the case on one and it has a Digispeech-3 chip by
Texas Instruments. I can get pics if need or wanted.
