I've used the Laser version of the ROM in the VTech card. As I
recall it worked a bit better than the original ROM with the
platinium 3.5" drives

I thought about using the VTech card for the same reasons you
mentioned but by then I was using an internal hard drive so it
never tried to boot off a lower slot.
