     That's the problem. I'm pretty sure Ultima I does not use that sort of storage.

     Instead, it seems to store a character by storing the block of memory which
contains character variables. When it loads a character, it loads the block and sets
pointers. If that's what's going on, the stuff you're looking for is going to be
saved in the format used by BASIC for floating point variables-- these may be named
C(0), C(1), etc..

     The main file for character info seems to be BEVERY.

     Could be that the simplest way to modify character stats is a program which acts
like the New Character program-- i.e. BLOADS the BVERY file, sets pointers, and then
just modifies stats under BASIC. When you're done, you BSAVE BEVERY.
