: That does not sound right, the IP addr for the OSX box. IPNR router
: should be 192.168.1.1, but the OSX box should have a different IP, even if
: it is the one running IPNR! On my setup at work, the
: box running IPNR has a real IP addr and IPNR has the 192.168.0.1 addr. My
: client Mac has addr 192.168.0.3 but I connect to the server (running IPNR)
: using its real IP addr. Disclaimer: I think. I actually just connect
: using Appletalk rather than IP sharing.
I have four boxes on the network. The OS-X box (bacon, 192.168.1.1) sits
on the Ethernet network, plugged into an Ethernet hub.
The MacOS 7.5.3 box (traver, 192.168.1.173) sits on the Ethernet network
and runs Localtalk Bridge for file sharing purposes. It also runs
IPNetRouter, with the MacIP gateway set to 192.168.1.2
The two Apple IIgs boxes (miller, 192.168.1.4; prior, 192.168.1.8) are
sitting on a LocalTalk network and I'm trying to run Marinetti/MacIP. The
goal here is to be able to log into bacon/192.168.1.1 from prior. At the
moment, I can run Telnet on the MacOS 7.5.3 box and log into 192.168.1.1
without any trouble, but I haven't managed to get it to work on the IIgs.
: On my home setup, I have a syslink router (192.168.1.1) and my Macs can
: connect using the other IP addr (ie the 192.168.1.103 Mac can connect to
: the 192.168.1.105 Mac (and vice-versa). Both can connect to ithe OSX
: iMac (192.168.1.102) [the .10x numbers are symbolic because I am not sure
: what IP addr each machine has at the moment.)
: With either setup, I can access one Mac on the LAN from outside WAN using
: the real IP address of host machine or the cable modem. But I never
: connect to the server (192.168.x.1) except by browser to configure router.
: Have you tried to connect using the localhost IP addr? (I can't remember
: for sure but I think it is 127.0.0.1 )
Particular addresses are not particularly important, particularly since
neither network is connected to the outside world. The real challenge is
just in getting connected via MacIP to the Ethernet network. Oh, and I
know LocalTalk is working because the atlookup on the OS-X box can see all
the machines.
Tonight I'll see if I can get a Macintosh to connect via MacIP to the OS-X
box. That will help narrow down the problem, I think.
