After all this chatter and discussion of IIe's and their nuances, I decided to pull mine out of it's resting place and fire it up for a bit of a nostalgia trip.

I had it all running, booted and happily chattering away at one of my old games from back then, when I smelled a burning smell...

The ears pricked up and nose in the air I traced it back to where the apple IIe was running (mind you, still running quite happily despite the plumes of smoke vomiting from it's power supply.)

I've dissected the power supply to see What Went Wrong. Looks like a capacitor has shit itself.

DAMN AND IT ONLY LASTED 19 YEARS!!! I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!

Well, you do know that those old IIe machines run on smoke, don't you? If the smoke leakes out, you're screwed! ;)

About a year and a half ago, at one of the AppleLinc meetings, all the smoke escaped from the power supply of my ///. Goodthing one of the members is a techie - he took it home with him, repaired the leak, and gave it a fresh supply of smoke!
