That is correct. They have 4 Mhz CPUs in them


now but are held back to 2.8 Mhz for purposes


of keeping the timing for video and disk access

such as ram access and math functions, etc.......




It's my understanding that at the time the //gs was being developed, 3


mhz was the fastest the 65816 could do. By the time production was


started, 4 mhz was the standard.




Though I don't suppose an extra million cycles would have made a LOT


of


difference....

Now then, that begs a different concept; A 14mhz 816 in the long
package....what if one were to put one on a TransWarp II or one of the other
IIe acceperators.  Any boost?

The chip wouldn't run any faster Bart - though I wouldn't mind seeing a 65c02 or a 65816 14mhz Transwarp for the //e..., and while you're at it, replace the Transwarp's 256K of RAM with at least a meg, heck, why not a full 16meg?
