Re: Apple IIgs booting from Mac server
Yes you need to have AppleShare Server 2.x or 3.x installed and
running on the Mac. If you do make sure you set up a user and group
with the right permissions. Then the ROM 01 and ROM 03 can boot from
the server. However unless you install GSOS 5.x or GSOS 6.01 on to the
server via the GS it will not boot GSOS. You will notice in the
install sections on the GS GSOS install disks, is AppleShare Set (or
something like that.. It's been awhile since I have done this). Pick
that and install it on the server. This will install the system
correctly so you can boot from it..
For me, to get the ROM 01 to boot from the server, you needed to
have slot 1 or Slot 2 picked for Appletalk and well as Slot 7. Where
on ROM 03 you could get back with just slot 7 set for appletalk.
Note: It does take time to boot from the server, but if you GS
doesn't have a hard drive this does fix that problem.
