However, your questions are off-topic here -- this group deals with 
Apple II computers (and occasionally Is and IIIs as well).

AFAIK, the "thinner and lighter" refers to the 3rd generation iPods 
(with the "dock connector") as opposed to 1st and 2nd generation iPods. 
All 3rd generation iPods (10GB, 15GB, 20GB and now 40GB) are the same 
size and about the same weight; a 2nd generation 10GB iPod would be 
slightly heavier.

When I ordered my 15 GB iPod in June from Apple's online store in 
Ireland (which processes all orders from within the EU), no proof was 
requested. Saying that I was a university student was enough.
