You can enable telnet under OS-X; it's disabled by default.
There is a line in /etc/inetd which would start up the telnet daemon if it
weren't commented out...remove the "#" from the line that says:

#telnet stream tcp nowait root /usr/libexec/tcpd    telnetd 

Restart inetd, or restart the machine...telnet is enabled.  Learn this

I just verified that I have telnetd going on my machine by telneting to
127.0.0.1 from a terminal window and getting a new login session.

I'm not sure at the moment which version of Marinetti I have installed on
the IIgs...how are you managing to get telnet working?  Are you running
MacIP, or are you not running over Appletalk?  I seem to be lacking a
MacIP gateway.  Well, I have one I can install on the old Mac server,
except that I haven't managed to get Open Transport working on that one...
