Hey, cool. I also have a dumpster PC ;-)
 
A friend fished it out of a dumpster, but I didn't know that at the time,
and gave it to me. When I first fired it up, there was an obvious problem
with the video. So, I called my friend, told him, and asked how to
diagnose whether it was the monitor itself, or the video card.
 
Without thinking about it, my friend said, without a doubt that the
monitor was the problem.
 
I asked how he could possibly know that, and his answer cracked me up:
"Because they had to throw it 6 feet in the air to get it over the side of
the dumpster."
 
That said, even free PCs lack soul ;-)
