I have been thinking about your question...

It is possible to create a start-up 3.5" ProDOS disk without the Finder, or
even no disk in the floppy drive at all, and logging onto the network. You can
also, specify the startup application over the network.

I hope to be experimenting with AppleTalk network, between my IIGS and
Macintosh, soon. If your interested, I can let you know how I got on.

A good resource would be "AppleTalk Network User's Guide for the Apple IIGS",
published by Apple Computer, product no. 030-1633-A. Usually, supplied with
original Apple IIGS Sysetm Software version 5 and up. Together with
"AppleShare File Server Setup" disk for IIGS - a free download from Apple's
website?
