New IIgs

Hello to all:

I have a "new" Rom 3 IIgs and I'm trying to see what it will do.  I know my
way around 8 bit  Apples, but am not so sure with this one.

Two problems:

1.  Trying to boot a known good 8 bit ProDOS disk in the 3-1/2" floppy gets
"Unable to load ProDOS."  Any reason this shouldn't work?


2.  Can I run System 6.0.1 from floppies or do I need a hard drive?

I am sure these are elementary questions but I didn't see answers in the
FAQ.
