Their are several versions of the .gif standard.  Perhaps ][GIF only works
with the earlier (1987) version, not the later (1989) version.  Some graphics
programs allow you to choose the exact format of the file if you load and
re-save it.

WRT files that don't show up in the directory, be sure that the file names
conform to the ProDOS filename rules--length and permitted characters.
