My "stealth IIGS" was purchased new as a IIe in 1985. When we got it home,
we had to add the floppy controller, serial card, and extended 80-column
card to set it up. (The jumper block on the serial card "bit" Dad and made
a little bit of a mess. :-) ) It's possible that Apple preinstalled some
items later on...then again, since the only thing holding cards in place was
the edge connector (no bracket like you see on a PCI or ISA expansion card),
it's more likely that they all shipped with "some assembly required." It's
too likely that cards might get popped out of their slots in transit.
