Apple IIgs and CD 600i problem

Hi All!

I'm back with another weird "this shouldn't be happening"
problem, and I was wondering if anyone else had an idea as to what
I've missed this time. ;-)

My problem: An Apple CD 600i (from a 600e case) to replace an
ugly Apple CD 300 Plus (internal from a Performa). Drive is seen by
RAMFast. Drive is even prodded succesfully and shows available CD
volumes in the RAMFast ROM utility (the Golden Orchard CD was used as
a test). Drive locks up computer solid when GS/OS tries to mount it,
or when I attempt to boot from the Golden Orchard CD. The 300 Plus
works fine.

Both drives were configured identically, with termination power
and an ID of 3.

Any idea what's going on? The drive obviously works, else my
RAMFast wouldn't have gotten as far as it did with it.

My system configuration:

ROM 03 IIgs in a PC tower case, 230w PSU
    4MB RAM (Q-RAM)
    9Mhz ZipGSX (32KB cache)
    RAMFast Revision D (3.0f)
    FDHD controller card
      Apple 5.25" Drive
Apple 3.5" Drive, upgraded to FDHD
    LANceGS Ethernet controller
GS/OS 6.0.1, various extensions and drivers.
Apple Quantum 40MB, Generic 270MB, or Digital 1GB HDD at ID0.

FWIW, I've tried the drive with and without the accompanying HDD, and
in combination with other compatible HDDs with everyone at various
SCSI IDs. No effect. Same with no inits/DAs loaded.

Take Care!
Josef

PS: At least the 600e setup only cost me $5 at Goodwill. It's no big
loss, but I'd really like a pretty drive in my IIgs tower, instead of
the ugly faceplate from the 300 Plus out of a dead Performa. I'd
switch just the faceplates, but the 300 Plus doesn't have an activity
light or volume control, and the 600i's faceplate would look hideous
on it because of that. Yes, sometimes it IS just about looks. ;)
