Actually, it is probably quite the opposite--the Apple II you have
is probably the very best machine for examining and retrieving
the data on those disks.
It is quite likely that the word processor used can also write the
data to disk as straight ASCII, without embedded formatting
characters, so that the text could be easily transferred to a PC
using Apple II Oasis and the cable you found.
If all else fails, you could transfer the word processing program
and the data and run the word processor in an emulator to
capture the data. Using Apple II Oasis as an example, you
can "print" from the emulated Apple II to a PC text file, for later
use in a PC/Mac word processing program.
In any event, the Apple II you have is the most immediate way
to gain access to your 5.25" data disks, and there are no other
easy ways to read them (unless you have an 8-year old Mac
that has a //e Emulator card--which could attach to an Apple
5.25" disk drive).
First capture the data, then dispose of the system. ;-)
