Re: Is ProDOS supported in OSX?

That's why I rushed out and got a new Mac in January, I'm not anti-X,
but its support for classic apps is a bit dodgy, my eMac boots just fine
in 9, though the lack of floppy drive is a bit of a drawback when it
comes to ProDOS. AFAIK you can still get an OS9-bootable Mac, but don't
quote me...

Even if OSX could write ProDOS floppies, your still going to be stuck
with a 1.44 MB drive which isn't exactly a2-compatible (for most of us).
I still think the best thing that could happen to the A2 world would be
a USB --> Disk ][ controller, but I doubt it's worth anyone's time to
develop such a beast...

The bottom line is that there's no reason to expect Apple to put any
resources into it, it's now up to the hobbyists to start innovating...

I picked up a G4 just before christmas. I also thought this would be
a good way to deal with some of the older apps. Unfortunately the last
time I booted into OS 9 when I went back to OSX I had some weird
graphics problems. Icons would disappear when my pointer got near
then and sometimes windows and the pointer would become invisible.
I couldn't find a solution so I ended up reinstalling everything.
Makes me not want to boot into OS 9 again so I bought a beige Mac to
run OS 9 stuff on and it reads 800k disk.

A USB -> Disk II adapter would be nice but as you say not likely to
happen. What there might be a small market for is a USB -> 3.5"
drive adapter, the A2 superdrive or 800k variety that is. I'd happily
replace my imation superdisk with one. A suitable driver would likely
warm the hearts of a few PC Users that have Apple IIs.
