Re: Which Apple II?

Yes, the standard Apple 5.25" DOS only 'sees' 35 tracks, the other DOSs mentioned see up to 40. (4k per track.) The original Disk ][ was physically capable of reading a 36th track, most of the 1/2 height drives are capable of 40 when asked to do so.

I have patched DOS 3.3 (Pronto-DOS really) occasionally to do more, but Copy II+ tended to choke on the extra tracks. Since C2+ was all I really ever used to copy files, that pretty much eliminated extra tracks as far as I was concerned.

Just to make it interesting, the Franklin 2000 and 500 series had 160K disk drives. They could also, of course, read and write 140K disks.
