The IIgs disk drive port can support multiple SmartPort drives (like the
UniDisk 3.5), up to two Apple 3.5 drives and two 5.25" drives in a daisy
chain connection. The rule is that SmartPort drives go first, then Apple
3.5 drives, and 5.25" drives are connected at the end of the chain.
For compatibility the IIgs drive port appears as a 3.5" drive controller
in slot 5 _and_ a 5.25" drive controller in slot 6. You can use the
control panel to change the startup slot, or you can use a PR#5 or PR#6
command from BASIC to boot from the right "drive controller card".
