Lotus Development Corp. had more to do with it that Microsoft. In the sense that Lotus bought out VisiCalc, which almost singlehandedly created the industry.


Errr, no. Lotus did not write Visicalc, Lotus wrote Lotus 123.

Gee, Rich, try reading what you are commenting on. I NEVER said Lotus wrote VisiCalc (though the founder of Lotus did have a lot to do with Advanced VisiCalc for the ///), in fact, what I said was that Lotus BOUGHT VisiCalc.

Visicalc was the first spreadsheet, for any computer, and it
was the Apple ]['s killer app. I've still got Visicalc somewhere.

BTW, interestingly enough, spreadsheets were the reason for
memory expansion. the extended memory system for the PC
platform was developed because spreadsheet users needed more
memory than the 8088's 1MB address range could provide.
