Re: The IBM PC's slavish devotion to the Apple II

Pardon my rebuttal, but one of the reasons Apple IIs

If you know the story from the beginning, before the
Apple I was even created, Woz, Jobs, Gates and one
other, who's name slips my mind for now, all worked
together

That is certainly streching it a bit.
They certainly did not work in the same room, and it was some time before the II added AppleSoft.

developing concepts which would be the
composite of all home and business PCs today.

The II's hardware and OS had nothing whatsoever to do with Gates, et al.

Please
check your sources. MicroSoft has more to do with the
success of Apple than anyone chooses to admit.

Lotus Development Corp. had more to do with it that Microsoft. In the sense that Lotus bought out VisiCalc, which almost singlehandedly created the industry.

I've been
following the battle between IBM and Apple and IMHO,
Apple would have been dead in the water, so to speak,
had IBM not stepped in and kept them afloat.

Ok, HOW did IBM keep Apple afloat, and WHEN? Apple was already close (if not beyond) a billion dollar a year company when IBM released the PC. Do you not remember their full page ad in the Journal, welcoming IBM to the party? That takes bucks. Lot's of them.

So, if
you'd like to rephrase your post, please do, otherwise,
keep it to yourself.

With only very minor complaints, his post is dead on.

This post shall in no way reflect on my feelings toward
the Apple II line. It was and is and probably will always
be in the hearts and minds of all who have had the pleasure
of owning one, whether for $1200, or free from a dumpster.
Let's give this thing a rest.

Thank you.
