    Oops, I neglected to mention you'll need a serial card in the IIe.
 You'll need software on both the PC and the IIe.  The ADT package has
such software.  It consists of a server program for the PC and a
client program for the IIe.  The FAQs on the Ground FTP site (U. of
Iowa) explain the subject in great detail.
