The market research company for whom I worked in the 1980's used them
for interviewing in Japan. We had one in the UK that we used for
testing our own computer aided interview software -- which ran
virtually unchanged on the j-plus -- and for demonstrating to clients.
The effectiveness of the interviewing software in Japanese was much
less than in English or any language that uses the Roman alphabet.
Katakana was not widely understood by many Japanese so each interview
had to be fully supervised whereas a typical UK interviewer would
conduct several interviews concurrently. This limitation will almost
certainly have limited potential sales of the j-plus.
