Maybe not today but in the late 1980s and early 1990s
definitely.  I saw the Apple IIe used in the following:

1) As a Point-of-Sale machine in Lamps-Plus stores
2) As administration computers in a school
3) To keep track of patient records in a hospital

This is just from my own eye-witness accounts.  In
the magazines, I read a lot more cases.
