Dana,
Here's what I do to get online via Ethernet:
Get a LANceGS Ethernet card
(http://www.apple2.org/marinetti/index.html)
Get Marinetti 2.0 (http://www.apple2.org/marinetti/index.html)
Have a Linux (or Unix) system handy.
The LANceGS comes with a Marinetti 2.0 driver, allowing your IIgs
to use network applications such as Spectrum
(http://www.ewannop.btinternet.co.uk/), Spectrum Internet Suite (see
previous URL), and many others.
One thing I found is that the IIgs by itself does NOT like
ICS-style masquerading. (It doesn't like to connect to anything
outside the immediate LAN) I use a VMWare-installed Linux setup to
act as the IIgs' 'host' machine. That is, I use it to telnet out
through the firewall/gateway through the IIgs, and Spectrum Internet
Suite likes to use a *nix shell like that to connect, from what I
understand.
Hope this helps,
...Josef
PS: If this is too much of a bother, get a Mac to PC null-modem cable
(I used my Newton's cable), get a terminal emulator package for the
Apple IIgs, and use Hyperterminal on your PC to transfer packages over
to your IIgs. More info on this is in the FAQs at
