5.25 Drives in GS/OS 6.0.1

There have been several postings in the past asking why
when there is only one 5.25 drive connected to the IIgs
the finder shows two. Now the answer to this has been
to load the Apple 5.25 driver into a sector editor and
making a change to a certain byte which will render this
to only show one drive. I have to instill this info into the
minds of those who prefer to mess with software which
is capable of doing this very thing through the system
inside the preferences dialog box. Under the menu
item "special" there is an entry called "preferences".
In this dialog there is a box marked "Check 5.25''
drives on Finder Start". While checked, the finder will
seek out the 5.25 drives and determine how many there
are and show those drives. While unchecked, the finder
will show the number of 5.25 drives that it can have in
the greatest setup possible. As I see it, the system is
making this change for you, so why tell people to go into
the software and possibly damage a perfectly good working
system program.

I also wish to ask this question. Is there a possibility that
some copies of the OS have been already modified and
this is the reason some need to be changed in this way?
If so, those should be removed from circulation.

In addition, there are some projects that I have in mind that
will require some nice code written and if anyone wishes to
be a part of this, I would ask you to email me and we'll
discuss the ins and outs of what I need and what you can
expect to get from it.
