There have *never* been MCUs "designed for beginners", because there is
a multi-billion dollar market [*] for MCUs for real-world applications, and
(maybe) a few tens of millions of dollars for beginners.  The designers
obviously target where the money is, just like Willie Sutton.

There have been various relatively simple MCUs, and there are still some
very simple MCUs available today.  Those might be better suited for
beginners than a more complex MCU.

[*] When the first MCU was designed back in 1975 or so, the market wasn't
that large, but the putative "beginner" market was much smaller also.
