I think you're confusing things here, and I'm probably not helping the
situation...

The "Disk II" is a 5.25-inch disk drive for the Apple II series of
computers. If the drive you're thinking about has the words "Disk ]["
written on the front of it, that drive won't work on ANY model of Macintosh.
Again, the Disk II drive is not meant to be used on a Macintosh.

The "black shutter" drive I referred to earlier is the one that sat in your
Power Mac 6100. Again, I'm thinking and writing at the same time, not
looking back at what I wrote... I was correct in that the Quadra 950 does
use the auto-eject disk drive (and so does the 900 model as well), so the
Quadra 900 and 950 were the only Quadra that used the auto-eject drive. All
the other Quadra models (Quadra 610, 650, 630) used the manual inject model
of disk drive.

So, for review:

"Disk II" is for the Apple II series. Unless you have an Apple II (I'm not
talking about the Macintosh II), don't think about that disk drive.

"auto-eject" disk drive is for the earlier Macintosh models, up to the
Centris series and the Quadra 900/950, and any Performa models that were
similar to these models.

"manual inject" disk drive is for the Quadras other than the 900/950 model,
all platinum and black colored Power Macintosh models including the Platinum
Power Mac G3 series and all-in-one Power Mac G3, and all Performas that were
similar to these models.

If you have any further questions about your Macintosh, please refer to the
comp.sys.mac.* newsgroups. Again, comp.sys.apple2.* newsgroups are for the
Apple II series and not the Macintosh.
