The victors write history.  This is true everywhere.  
 
History everywhere is distorted.  As you begin ot live thru it and then see how
it is reported in textbooks etc.  You will see this to be true.  Whenever you
summarize something you inevitably distort.  But still something happens when
history gets written.
 
But in summary, history gets written after the results are in.  The present
condition inevitably conditions how the past is viewed.  And the victors get to
do the commentary.
