It may help to go to your PC's Control Panel and select "Gaming Options".
Click on "Properties" and you will be able to test and calibrate your stick for
regular PC operation.
Bruce Lee includes a joystick calibration which seems to work for PC
sticks, at least running under AppleWin.
If you want to use keys, AppleWin lets you use the numeric keypad to
simulate a joystick ("0" key= fire button). With auto-centering, it's a fair
joystick substitute.
