Remedial Help?

My son got hold of an AppleIIe a few years ago and it seemed to work
well, we moved and packed it away and when we unpacked it and found a
spot for it, it has not been booted up for a bout 3 years.  I am not
sure I found the correct cable to connect the monitor...it seems to be
a simple video cable connector. However when the monitor and the
computer are turned on nothing appears on the screen. Is there
supposed to be a cursor or prompt.. we have a floppy drive attached
and it seems like it would boot off a disk in the floppy drive but
nothing shows on the screen ... any advice on trouble shooting would
be appreciated.
