/RAM disconnected

Why is it when I list volumes in copyII+, Slot 3, Drive 2 is sometimes
shown as /RAM DISCONNECTED and sometimes doesn't show up at all?... I
presume this refers to the RAM on the 80 column card, but why
'disconnected'?
Oh yeah, it's a //e... happens with both 80 column card and RamWorks
512k card.
