Thats a good way to do it, but it requires a lot of cables and connectors.
Being handy with a soldering iron, I make my own.  I cut one end off a Mac
printer cable and solder the wires to a DB-25 female connector. The
necessary pinouts are available on the net.

Using this technique you can also make cables for the IIc and IIc+, which
are difficult to find cables for.
