You could certainly do it with a null-modem cable and comm programs on each
computer. I haven't tried ADT since it came out after I had the null-modem
process working. Perhaps an ADT expert can comment.

No. I don't have a Mac with anything newer than OS 8.1, but hardware and
software support was dropped for 800K disks and ProDos along the way. I
don't think Macs running OS X even have floppies anymore.
But there are a lot of LC's and Performas out there with 030 and 040
processors running OS 7.X that will work.  Even the old Mac Plus can write
to ProDos disks, though it can't work with 1.44 disks.
