Yes. I just verified that the process detailed below works. It may not be
the best, but it does work.
To verify operation, start typing, and the words should appear on the other
computer's screen.
I initiated an Xmodem transfer from the sending computer, then started the
receiving process on the other. Tried it both directions, and it worked. I
was able to unshrink a file on the IIc that I transferred from a ProDos disk
on the Mac to the IIc using this method.
The setup details:
Mac Color Classic upgraded to "Mystic" with 040 motherbd. System 7.5.5.
Comm prog: Zterm set to 8N1, 2400bps, no handshaking.
Apple IIc running ProDos
Comm prog: Zlink set to 8N1, 2400 bps.
Cable: Apple IIc to Imagewriter II, homemade. Made from a cable cut from a
PC keyboard spliced to Mac printer cable, one end cut off. Note to
purists: See? Macs and PC's can be useful... as a source of parts for Apple
II's. ;-))
This cable can also be purchased pre-made.

My notes have a sketch of the wiring. Unfortunately, I didn't note the
perspective- whether I'm looking at the outer ends or the inner ends where
I'm soldering. I'm pretty sure it's viewing the external ends. I stripped
the ends of the wires and used a continuity tester to find which wire was
connected to which pin, and noted the wire color by the pin. Then I soldered
the appropriate wires together and made sure it worked before taping it up.
You can print this out and sketch in the connections per the table above:
Mac end:
