Re: KansasFest 2002
I went to KFest for years.
Anyone who has ever been to one would tell you that you don't go to have
someone personally tell you the same stuff you read online. You go for the
companionship and fun of hanging out with a whole bunch of fellow Apple II
fans. You go to watch the wizards of the Apple II world do unlikely things
with their computers in the wee hours of the night.
I haven't been to a KFest for some years and don't know what they're like
now, but hanging out in the Avila dorm still ranks well among some of my
best memories. Good friends and good times. An opportunity to actually meet
all those people you know from online and have a normal conversation with
them.
It was great. I doubt there's anything in the world today like KFest was in
the early-mid '90's.
The last couple of times I went, I felt that it was becoming a place for
Apple II enthusiasts to get together and play with their Macs, and the
online community had largely collapsed along with AOL and Genie, so I
dropped out. But I just love the idea that it is STILL going on!
