I have a CGA/EGA monitor for an old system somebody gave me. However, the
plug looks almost identical to the plug for my joystick port, not the
socket on the PCT.


If it is a CGA monitor, it should have a 9 pin D-shaped male connector,
which is exactly the same as the plug which goes into the external
joystick port on the Apple IIe, IIc and IIgs.

An EGA monitor might need a larger plug - it has 6 bits for the colour
signals (two bits each for red, green and blue) compared to CGA's 4 bits
(three bit encoded colour plus one bit intensity).


I don't dispute the possiblity David, but I remember that one selling point of having an EGA card was that, when used with your CGA monitor, you didn't have any better resolution, but you had 16 colors on screen at one time. That would seem to imply that the EGA had 9 pins just like the CGA.

Tandy's 1000 did something similiar, as I recall, but they called it CGAi, an intensity setting of some kind.

One of the optional accessories for the PC Transporter was a CGA adaptor
cable.  It is a short ribbon cable with a 10 pin IDC connector at one
end, and a D9 female at the other end.  It plugs into J6 on the PC
Transporter, which is the same connector used by the cable which goes to
the ColorSwitch card.

Unfortunately, this appears to be the only PC Transporter accessory
which I _don't_ have.  (I thought I did have one, but it isn't in the
box with the other cables.  The box hasn't been opened for several
years.)

If anyone else has one, they may be able to decipher the pinout, and it
shouldn't be too hard to construct one.
