The CF slot specifically is harder to make remote with any of Rich's cards unless you use an extension cable (which I suspect you already have). The USB slot is of course much more flexible, and has many more extension options that take up rather less desk space. ;-)

Another problem I see with the Microdrive is that it seems to need SanDISK
CF's. Perhaps I am wrong, but the CFFA 3000 does not seem to care whose CF's
it uses???

SanDisk is the defacto standard, that's for sure. Not everyone is as good as they are. Rich has a spot on his site where he tracks user reports of compatibility of various cards and brand, but it hasn't been updated in a while, I don't think. I just go to epay and search for SanDisk CF when I need some more. But the only thing I really need a CF card for any more is updating firmware... USB is much smaller/simpler/easier to plug into other devices.

That's the beauty of the '3000... it gives you one more layer of indirection (disk images vs. partitions) so that moving data around in the real world is just that much simpler. Yes, CiderPress+CF cards works. But 32MB .po images are simply files to all operating systems and tools.
