I've spent the greater part of the last week writing a series of command
line tools that run in ProDOS 8 under the Aztec C Shell and use wildcards to
change file settings on groups of files. This is partially because when I
use CiderPress to place groups of files on disk images, CiderPress can't do
a multi-select to change File Types and Aux Types.
I have written the following command line utilities for ProDOS 8 which work
with one or more files (and support prefixed or non-prefixed pathnames and
wildcards) which I hope to publish and make available today or tomorrow (I
need someone to test these further if anyone has the time):
1. fi - GetFileInfo
2. chmod - change file permissions (access)
3. chtype - change file types and aux types
4. touch - change file last modified date and time
I alternately use Apple II Oasis for this feature both in ProDOS 8 and DOS
3.3, but Apple II Oasis is dated. Also Apple II Oasis will place lower-case
filenames onto a DOS 3.3 disk.
Back to Ciderpress - Andy at one point was considering porting CiderPress
forward to more current Visual Studio. But we can just as easily help Andy
and/or David et al make changes to CiderPress if need be in its present
form. I have rebuilt my Windows XP machine into a PowerToy so can still run
the old without a VM, and my Windows 7 machines represent our current target
for CiderPress I think, so I have those for testing too.
But I love AppleWin too! That debugger is really neat!
There are several rails running here for tools and emulators:
Windows - CiderPress and AppleWin, etc
Unix/MAC
Java - AppleCommander and Jace, etc
Legacy Mac O/S
Legacy GS/OS
Native ProDOS 8 and DOS 3.3
CP/M 80
Also a fair amount of hardware in development. Including Raspberry Pi stuff
(Ivan) ... Alex Freed (Steve Howell?) and Conrad
Mike Mahon, Willie, the list goes-on...
The question for me is do I stick with the safe role of the old MS-DOS and
Aztec C programmer and librarian or do I broaden my horizons and Apple II
knowledge as a toolsmith or an integrator... and on what project...
On an Apple II you can code forever!
I've really had fun these last few months and I'm not even close to
caught-up with what you guys have been doing these last 3-4 years.
