I detailed a very quick-and-dirty approach to doing this back in 2006 when I cobbled together a IIgs in a //e case for my kids.

At the time I didn't own a dremel tool, but I do now. If I had the time over I'm sure I could've done a much neater job.
Whilst that computer has now been relegated to storage, it served my kids for quite a number of years, and was the alpha/beta test machine for IIgs Colouring (my kids were the testers! :-)).
