While Kegs is still my favorite emulator, it leaves a bit to be desired in some areas. Compiling sound on Mac OSX is one of them. And as you've stated, user-friendliness is lagging a bit. But my statement was also in reference to what is available in general. Sweet16 is Mac only. KEGS32 is a specialized port. Etc. I didn't mean to imply that there weren't any cross-platform IIgs emulators.

I'm with ya. Every emulator has its strengths and its weaknesses. Portability just isn't one of KEGS' weaknesses. :-) And believe me, I use them all to their best advantage. I don't play favorites when it comes time to get something done.

My last experience with GSPort was a while ago, and I had an issue installing so I quickly abandoned it.

That's a perfectly reasonable reason for abandonment. No argument there whatsoever.

If you're on OSX, it's a "drag out of the DMG" affair now. And sound also works in OSX, though I don't normally hear more than the bootup beep. I'm sure those looking for adequate synthesizer emulation would be disappointed. I'm a firm believer that computers should be seen and not heard. This is not a belief shared by many.

I know you've put a lot of work in to it and I'm really glad. I'm sure it's the best out there as far as modern support.

I put project management into it, mostly. :-) I'm waiting for Marc to get his /// emulation engine working enough to boot SOS in OpenEmulator, myself. I don't care what platform it runs on. I'll use whatever I have to for that.

I'm planning on doing some work with a Raspberry Pi in the coming months and the idea is to port KEGS/GSPort to that device. But for people that don't know what a makefile is, a Java based emulator might make more sense.

I'm sure either or both will work just fine on the Pi, so it'll be fun all the way around.

Anyway, you do remind me that I need to take another look at GSPort, but overall, the design of KEGS/GSPort and its UI are really starting to show the signs of age. I looked into working on this a while ago, but the amount of time required is beyond what I can commit to. That's another reason to support anyone who wants to try and write a new take on an Apple IIgs emulator.

I didn't mean to sound like I was fishing for users. Everything's a tradeoff. I like the KEGS codebase because to me it is an easy and very enjoyable playground to muck about with. Kent did an awesome job with it. Just yesterday I figured out why it wasn't listening on its simulated serial/IP port with IN#2 - and was able to go in and fix it. It's nice not to have to rely on someone else for that.
