Re: TransWarp GS repair questions

Hi,
The checker board start screen, make me think Power supply problem. I have more then a few of them that need work. Funny how they will work until you load them down. Even the switche in the back can go on them. I leave it on and use a Power strip to turn them on off. Well a Power Center.

Rather than go the AT route. Someone found one with all the voltages, that was a higher wattage then the IIgs. It was for a medical device so the filtering should be better. Here is the link.

Here is the power supply they are talking about. 80watts rather than Apple's 65watt.

I would Upgrade this first, then see how everything works. Then maybe add a fan.

On the Transwarp itself the cable is a weak link. From what I hear and have seen. It is not a straight thur conection. That is like for the Zip acellerator. Even though they look the same they are not.

I know that the edge connector on any card can cause problems, even though it may look fine. Had this happen with a Ramfast SCSI card a few times. What happened the computer would not see it or crashed. Had one sent to me that 2 people looked at and said it must be dead. I took the card and with a OLD clean white T-shirt rubbed across all of the brass edge connectors. Fairly hard. T-shirt was now gray to black on spot I used to rub. (also a little hole in it now). Did it on both sides until there was no more change in color on the T-shirt. Sometimes the MB edge connectors are looser than others. Boards will sometimes sag or lean. I am sure the MB edge connectors can get oxidized too. Had this happen with Disk Drive card too. I am not as gifted or talented as some on here. But I am more of crazy collector than them. My one Transwarp Fails one self test. But I think it has to do with the Ramfast Card. It still works fine at 11.75Mhz for the last 20+ years.

Take Care,
     George from Michigan

I have never broken any hardware before so my money is on some sort of static dischage in transit. I have a few questions regarding repairs. First off is there anyone who does repairs to transwap gs cards? Second of all, if no one repairs them I might give it a shot myself but first I have one crutial question. I could order every single generic logic chip and new gals and change everything out with a rework station, but the fpga is the problem. Is the fpga programmed from ROM every powerup as I know is often typical for an FPGA or does it have internal memory storing its program? If the latter is true then does anyone have the JEDEC file for the FPGA? Please help me I feel right now as if I've wasted 350 bucks on a useless card. :(
