All of this is fine and dandy, but what is missing is metadata. In emulators, the most common use case for these files, there are disk swap lists, etc in play. These lists need to reside somewhere and I know in the CBM world they are an absolute PITA to deal with.
Cloanto, the people behind C64 Forever and Amiga Forever have a format called RP9 that describes not only the disks of an archive, but the context in which they are used, such as machine configurations, swap lists, etc. To me, getting RP9 accepted as a standard would be WAY more valuable than converting millions of disk images across multiple platforms into a single XML format.
