thanks for the comments and ideas!
RP9 is indeed a nice idea for Apple II emulators. It contains one or several
disk images and artwork.
So, an RP9 file could contain a DDL file, and provide support for
copy-protected disk images :-).
BTW, we are close to a final DDL 1.0 spec:
